The BAFTA Video Games Award nominations have been announced this week and besides some predictable choices, there’s also been some very welcome news. Monstermind, by Bossa Studios has been nominated for two, yes two, BAFTAs.

The first gong is for “Online Browser”, pitting it up against The Sims Social and setting the stage for a David Vs Goliath style scenario. The second nomination is for “Debut Game”, which is fairly logical as Monstermind is indeed Bossa’s debut.

Monstermind’s inclusion into the “Debut Game” category is an even greater achievement when you see who it’ll be rubbing shoulders with; Bastion, Eufloria, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, L.A. Noire and Rift. Each of these is a compelling gaming experience in their own way, but what’s really significant is that Monstermind is a free to play browser game amongst big indie hits and AAA productions. If nothing else, this is another large step in the development of social gaming and it is one which Bossa and many other growing studios, will surely push in the future.

For now though, I say congratulations to the studio and the talented ladies and gentlemen who worked on the project and hope that similar success is replicated in the future.
